Our story

For the modern townsman.

Oppidan is Latin for a townsman. It is the name of our distillery, and a description of the people we make spirits for.

The space we inhabit is being created every day. There is a vision for the line of a garment, the angle of a light. In every moment there is an opportunity for something better.

You understand what distinguishes the crafted. You appreciate the difference. So do we.

The modern townsman is someone who brings care and curiosity to the place they live. The character of our spirits follows the same idea: respect what came before, and keep looking for a thoughtful way forward.

The new American school of distilling

Respect the craft. Stay curious.

Tradition gives us a starting point. Curiosity gives us a reason to keep asking questions about grain, botanicals, smoke and wood.

Our whiskeys and gins pay respect to one of the world's oldest crafts while taking a modern point of view. Each one starts with a question.

The distillery

Made in Wheeling, Illinois.

Our spirits are handcrafted in Wheeling, a short drive north of Chicago.
