Two bourbons, one idea
Smoke + Sea starts from two of our own whiskeys: the Four Grain and Solera mash bills. Together they bring malt, chocolate and familiar bourbon sweetness. Then the finishing casks take it somewhere bourbon rarely goes.

Straight bourbon finished in French oak and peated Islay casks
Bourbon first. The coast at the end.
Our Four Grain and Solera mash bills, finished in French oak and peated Islay Scotch casks. Bourbon on the front, brine and peat on the finish.
Smoke + Sea starts from two of our own whiskeys: the Four Grain and Solera mash bills. Together they bring malt, chocolate and familiar bourbon sweetness. Then the finishing casks take it somewhere bourbon rarely goes.
French oak adds structure and dark fruit. Casks that once held peated Islay Scotch add smoke, earth and a maritime edge. The bourbon leads on the nose and the front of the palate; the finish is briny and peaty. It is a conversation between two whiskey traditions, and neither one wins.
Whisky Advocate scored Smoke + Sea 91 points, our highest. They found a delicate, Scotch-like nose of citrus peel and dried flowers, with water bringing out vanilla and saltwater taffy; a deeper palate of orange peel, allspice and a hint of pipe tobacco; and a sweet, lightly citrus finish that ties into the spice.
How it's made

Structure and dark fruit
Smoke, earth and sea
In the glass
Citrus peel and dried flowers. Water brings vanilla and saltwater taffy.
Orange peel, allspice and a hint of pipe tobacco.
Sweet and lightly citrus, then brine and peat.
Neat, with a few drops of water. Try to find the moment where the bourbon ends and the Islay begins.

Whisky Advocate review
“bright and delicate”
This French oak and peated Islay scotch barrel-finished bourbon is bright and delicate, with a scotch-like nose offering gentle notes of kumquat, potpourri, and candle wax, with water bringing out vanilla and saltwater taffy. The palate is deeper and more brooding, as orange peel melds with allspice, mince, and a hint of pipe tobacco. The finish isn’t terribly lengthy, but offers sweetness punctuated by an appealing touch of light citrus, all integrating well with the spice notes.
